Position: Executive & Development Associate

Reports To: Executive/Artistic Director

Status: Part Time (11-month cumulative contact subject to annual renewal; 15/hours per week)

Compensation: $14,000-$17,000 commensurate with experience

Goal Effective Date: March 1, 2019

Detailed Position Summary:

Choral Arts Initiative seeks an enthusiastic and motivated leader to serve as its Executive & Development Associate.  Working in partnership with the Board of Directors, Executive/Artistic Director, and staff, the Executive & Development Associate will develop, implement, and monitor actionable strategies that achieve the organizational goals and objectives as it relates to development and arts administration.  The Executive & Development Associate will possess excellent organizational and communication skills and will use those skills to create sustainable financial opportunities to support the operations of the organization.  The Executive & Development Associate will seek out new and established funding opportunities at the local, state, and national level.   The Executive & Development Associate will plan, coordinate, and facilitate fundraising and community engagement events to build lasting partnerships.  The Executive & Development Associate will be available to serve as an ambassador for the organization in all performances, events, and guest interactions.

Primary Responsibilities

Development and Fundraising:

Develop, coordinate, and execute a comprehensive strategy of financial development and support:

  • Plan and oversee the individual donor campaign(s)
  • Identify and pursue new sources of financial support from individuals, local businesses, foundations, and corporations
  • Develop and implement the strategy for cultivating, securing, and sustaining corporate sponsorships
  • Secure performance sponsorships for upcoming performances
  • Prepare foundation and government grant requests and reports
  • Develop materials to support development efforts
  • Establish and support committees and task forces to implement fundraising projects
  • Maintain and update our donor relations database regularly

Marketing:

Coordinate with the Marketing & Publicity Director in the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategy to market Choral Arts Initiative, affiliated groups, and programs throughout the market area:

  • Oversee sales of tickets with the goal of increasing the audience base
  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive marketing plan, including press releases, advertising, calendar listing, brochures/postcards, public service announcements, and other platforms

Community Relations:

  • Serve as an ambassador for the organization in all public appearances
  • Develop an ongoing relationship with arts colleagues in the community
  • Act as a spokesperson for the organization as needed for media inquiries, government agencies, corporate community, foundations, and the local community
  • Attend Board of Director meetings and prepare agenda items as requested

Planning:

Assist with short-term and long-term planning and engage the board and staff in annual planning sessions:

  • Prepare the strategic plans in partnership with the Artistic Director/Executive Director, Board of Directors, and staff
  • Evaluate progress towards goals on a regular basis

Staffing and Training:

Assist in the hiring, training, and supervision of administrative staff as needed to achieve the organization’s objectives:

  • Monitor and evaluate performance of Administrative Assistant and Marketing & Publicity Director
  • Create and maintain job descriptions for all approved positions
  • Hire staff to fill position openings
  • Create policies, practices, and procedures to ensure adherence to state and federal laws

Other Duties as Assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Arts Administration, Business, Music, or other related field
  • 1-3 years of development or donor relations experience with nonprofit organizations
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations in the performing arts field
  • A background in choral music is preferred though not required
  • Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills
  • Highly organized and able to keep track of a wide array of events, projects, contacts, and objectives
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with Choral Arts Initiative Artistic and Administrative staff, the Board of Directors, and Artistic Advisory Committee.

Selected candidates will be invited to an interview with the Executive/Artistic Director, one staff member, and at least one member from the Board of Directors.

Final candidates will be invited to a discussion with the Board of Directors to be determined in late January or early February 2019.

All final candidates are subject to a background check prior to final offer of engagement.
