The School of Arts and Culture at the Mexican Heritage Plaza (SOAC) in San Jose seeks an artist or artist team to create a public artwork that will be displayed during the annual Day of the Dead Holiday to honor and celebrate the lives of those lost during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The artist must be culturally competent with a proven track record of working with community participants. Ideally, the artist will have experience integrating community input into their work. For this project, the artist will engage with community members to explore the impact of the pandemic. The resultant artwork must be visually engaging both day and night.
The artwork will be an important element of the week long Avenida de Altares display. It will be displayed on the building beginning the week of October 6, 2021, and will remain on display through November 2, 2021.
