Breath of Fire Latina Theater Ensemble is putting out a call for stories in monologue form that examine the impact and effects of abortion across a wide spectrum of experiences for presentation and publication.

The Abortion Chronicles will be a series of monologues that tell the historical and personal impact of abortion access and restriction. The pieces will be chosen from this submission call as well as by invitation. Anyone with a personal story is welcome to submit. This can include first-person accounts, witness accounts, or family stories. The pieces should be 1000 words or less.

We will choose 25 monologues for inclusion in the script, and 5 will be by invitation. The piece will be published for performance with a portion of royalties after production and publication costs to go to Planned Parenthood. Playwrights will receive full credit and the rights are non-exclusive (the monologue remains your property at all times.)

One playwright will be awarded a paid commission to expand their story into a full-length play. The commissioned play's copyright and rights will be completely retained by the writer. The play title page will include "Commissioned by Breath of Fire Latina Ensemble,  for the Abortion Chronicles Project"

Deadline:  February 1, 2023  |  One (1) submission per writer

Copyright and all rights to your piece remain yours, but submitting to this call may mean that your play will be performed and recorded. We will always strive to involve the playwright as much or as little as they wish.
