This delightful fantasy opera has four characters: Hoffman, the innocent young man who falls in love with Olympia, a life-like mechanical doll created by Spalanzani, a slightly made scientist/inventor, and Coppelius, a not-so-nice inventor who made the doll’s life-like eyes. Our shortened version (forty minutes) of Jacques Offenbach’s operatic classic is taken from Act One of the opera and was finished by the famed composer only months before his untimely death. The production includes professional singing artist, beautiful costumes and scenery, a lively piano accompaniment, and is designed to be an interactive experience for both teacher and student. All performances are finished with a spirited question and answer session between the students and the performing artits. The production is suitable for Grades K-6. Curriculum guides, linking the opera performance with current educational standards, will be available for download prior to the performance.
