African Drum & Dance Ensemble

Program description

Chazz Ross and Teresa Smith provide Djembe drums to 20 students in this upbeat, highly participatory program. They then challenge the other students to dance and sing African songs and rhythms that are played on the drums. Teresa instructs the dancers to sing with and follow the beats that Chazz teaches the drummers. Their simple drumbeats create a pluse that holds the songs and dancers together. Basic explanation of traditional dance movements and standard rhythms accompany this interactive musical program.
