Southland Opera is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation dedicated to bringing high-quality programming to audiences throughout Southern California.
In addition to having a strong adult outreach program, Southland Opera is committed to bringing opera and musical theatre into the classroom. We recognize the value of the arts in enhancing learning. Through our Educational Outreach Program, we have performed over 6,000 music workshops and assemblies for nearly two million local children. We are devoted to presenting productions on school campuses that are fresh, exciting, accessible and consistent with the standards of performing excellence.

Mission Nutrition: In this highly engaging, musical assembly, the student audience will actively use the Pyramid of Food (My Pyramid) when making food choices, learn the importance of snacking on fruits and vegetables, use labels to determine calorie, sugar and fat content, identify the “hype” companies use to entice us to buy sugary products, see the positive effects of an hour of daily physical activity. Mission Nutrition is approved by the Network for a Healthy California. Funding from the Network may be used to purchase this assembly.
Indy Joe and the Pyramid of Food: A musical comedy adventure that pits Indy Jo against her nemesis, F.F. Greasy, and Mr. Greasy’s assistant, Sugah, in an effort to solve the mystery of the ancient, scrambled Pyramid of Food. The audience helps Indy overcome many obstacles that stand in her way, find the missing pyramid pieces, decipher the riddles in each food group, and finally solve the mystery of the ancient Pyramid of Food.
Indy Jo and the Template of Health: Another musical comedy adventure that engages children during an interactive assembly.
