Southland Opera is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation dedicated to bringing high-quality programming to audiences throughout Southern California.

In addition to having a strong adult outreach program, Southland Opera is committed to bringing opera and musical theatre into the classroom. We recognize the value of the arts in enhancing learning. Through our Educational Outreach Program, we have performed over 6,000 music workshops and assemblies for nearly two million local children. We are devoted to presenting productions on school campuses that are fresh, exciting, accessible and consistent with the standards of performing excellence.

The Night Harry Stopped Smoking

Program description

The Night Harry Stopped Smoking (4th – 6th grade) is the story of Harry McGlaughlin’s dream. One night after finishing his last cigarette of the day, Harry falls asleep and dreams he is transported to a very dirty place with strange creatures living in it. When he asks them where he is, they tell him he has awakened inside his own lung.
