The Bead Society of Orange County (BSOC) presents Bead Trade in the Pacific Northwest with Dr. Alison Kyra Carter at the Bowers Museum.
At the historic Fort Vancouver, WA site, once the Hudson’s Bay Company's Western Headquarters, over 100,000 glass beads have been found, reflecting the diverse fur trade goods supplied from 1824-1845. A previous study by Lester Ross identified over 150 bead types potentially from Venice, Bohemia, China, and Great Britain. Carter's talk will explore the origins of these beads and their role in the 19th and early 20th-century Pacific Northwest trade.
Sponsored by the Collectors Council, an affiliate council of the Bowers Museum.
