Now in person, Poetic Voices is the perfect chance to immerse yourself in poetry surrounded by art. Moderated by Natalie Elaine, Chicana and Xicana poets Elvia Susana Rubalcava and Brenda Vaca will discuss their work as well as give poetry readings.
Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center (Muzeo) presents Poetic Voices, moderated by Natalie Elaine, featuring poets Elvia Susana Rubalcava and Brenda Vaca.
Elvia Susana Rubalcava is a Chicana, creative nonfiction writer, poet, playwright, director, producer, and teaching artist from Santa Ana, California. Elvia’s poetry has been published in Mujeres de Maíz flor y canto, Seeds of Resistance flor y canto, Sunday Jump, and others. Her short story Palomas was published last fall in the anthology Our Stories: A collection of personal narratives. Elvia is currently working on a collection of poetry called Writings Beneath my Tongue, expanding her short plays to full length, and teaching a series of creative writing classes for the city of Boyle Heights.
Brenda Vaca is a Xicana poet, author, and independent publisher from Sejatnga, Unceded Tongva Territory, known as South Whittier, CA. She earned her B.A. in English at U.C. Berkeley and later earned a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Biblical Languages from the Pacific School of Religion and Graduate Theological Union. Riot of Roses is her debut collection of poetry published by her indie house, Riot of Roses Publishing House.
