One of the most celebrated violinists of his time, Joshua Bell returns with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields in a program featuring Mendelssohn’s Overture from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto No. 2, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6. Bell, who was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame in 2005 and was named Musical America’s 2010 Instrumentalist of the Year, was appointed Music Director of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields in 2011.
Formed by Sir Neville Marriner in 1958, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields is known for its polished and refined sound. One of the finest and most recorded chamber orchestras in the world, the collegiate spirit and flexibility of the original small, conductor-less ensemble remains an Academy hallmark.
