Listening to a tentet is like hearing the very essence of big band jazz–with all the thrills of that remarkable, varied sound.
Listening to a tentet is like hearing the very essence of big band jazz–with all the thrills of that remarkable, varied sound. Consider a tentet to be the chamber ensemble of jazz with rich potential for creative diversity and new, illuminating ways to arrange music for ten players in authentic jazz fashion. The Phil Norman Tentet consists of Christian Jacob (piano), Dick Weller (drums), Brad Dutz (percussion), Kevin Axt (bass), Larry Koonse (guitar), Carl Saunders (trumpet), Ron Stout (trumpet), Scott Whitfield (trombone), Rusty Higgins (alto sax), Roger Neumann (baritone sax), and Phil Norman (tenor sax/clarinet).
The Phil Norman Tentet has been in business for fifteen years, getting better and better with each new outing. Their music dips into the influential resources of such predecessors as the Birth of the Cool bands, while exploring new ideas via the contributions of gifted arrangers and composers Bob Florence, Dave Pell, Allen Broadbent, Roger Neumann and Kim Richmond, among others. The Phil Norman Tentet will play a combination of standards and original tunes, with each member soloing.
