Moscow State Symphony Orchestra

Moscow State Symphony Orchestra

Presented by Soka Performing Arts Center at Soka Performing Arts Center

One of Russia’s oldest symphony orchestras, the Moscow State Symphony was founded in 1943 and currently boasts a broad and loyal international following. The orchestra has become one of most prominent national symphonic ensembles, presenting the great cycles of complete symphonic works from leading composers. The orchestra’s wide-ranging programs combine great orchestral, operatic, and choral classics with equally significant music of the 21st century, including many forgotten or neglected works.

Alexander Sidnev was born in Moscow; he graduated with honors from the Moscow P. Tchaikovsky Conservatory both as a pianist (class of Professor V. Kastelsky) and the opera and symphony conductor (class of Professor Y. Simonov). In 1993, thanks to recommendation and personal artistic support of composer T. Khrennikov, he became a Chief Conductor of the Lipetsk Symphony Orchestra; and in 1997 he was nominated as conductor of the Svetlanov’s Russian State Symphony Orchestra. With this prominent ensemble Sidnev worked and gave concerts in Moscow and on tour in Russia and abroad. Since 2008 he has been an Assistant Conductor of the renowned Moscow State Symphony Orchestra (Music Director Pavel Kogan). A wide repertoire of A. Sidnev includes all the major compositions of national and world symphony, opera, ballet and chamber music.
