Chess
Music by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus; Lyrics by Tim Rice
Directed by Robin Buck
Music Direction by Daniel Gary Busby
November 11 – 18, 2017
Irvine Barclay Theatre*
This iconic 80s musical develops the ancient game of chess into a metaphor for political and romantic intrigue. The loutish American Grandmaster, the earnest Russian Champion, the Hungarian-American chess second, and the discarded wife all vie for attention and dominance. Think Trump-Putin and their minions in a “reality TV-style” concert setting.
