Diavolo Dance Theater - Transit Space

Diavolo Dance Theater - Transit Space

Presented by Irvine Barclay Theatre at Unknown

From Los Angeles, California Jacques Heim, artistic director The daredevils of dance take on the skateboard culture with high-flying energy in two programs. The acclaimed work, Transit Space, is an unforgettable feat of athletic wizardry. Influenced by the documentary film, Dogtown and Z-Boys, the piece uses skateboard ramps as set pieces to create an urban environment with constantly shifting emotional and physical spaces. Powerful and, oh so cool, these skateboarding superstars zoom up and fly, redefining the boundaries of gravity. Trajectoire is a visceral and inspirational journey. Set on an abstract Twenty-First Century Galleon, the group is set adrift – sink or swim – upon the ever-shifting landscape of human relations in modern society. At journey’s end, the piece shows the transcendence of the human soul against all odds. With boundless flexibility and daring, the Diavolo performers create unanticipated visual wonders.
