The Costa Mesa Playhouse continues its 53rd season with “A New Brain”, a musical by Tony Awarding winning authors William Finn and James Lapine (“Falsettos”), running February 2 – March 3.
When a neurotic, frustrated composer is confronted with a terminal illness, he finds comfort in the healing power of art. “A New Brain” is based on William Finn’s autobiographical account of his own battle for life when he was afflicted with a seemingly terminal illness. As the central character, Gordon Michael Schwinn,struggles to survive, he finds salvation in the healing power of art.
The New York Times called the show “Jaunty [with] moments of captivating eccentricity,” while the New York Post suggested that “A New Brain” is "Apt and original…a fascinating story." InTheatre said the show is "filled with beguiling, buoyant melody [and] witty and original lyrics.”
Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $20 general admission and $18 for students and seniors. Discounts available for groups of 10 or more. The first Friday preview performance, February 2, is at 8 p.m. and is $18 for all seats. Gala Night performance on Saturday, February 3 is $22 for general admission, and $20 for students and seniors.
