Colburn @Soka with Kova Quartet

Colburn @Soka with Kova Quartet

Presented by Soka Performing Arts Center at Soka Performing Arts Center

In collaboration with the Colburn School in Los Angeles, this new chamber music series features outstanding young soloists and ensembles, specially chosen by the Colburn faculty for their artistry and professional potential.

The Kova String Quartet–violinists Gallia Kastner and Felicity James, violist Chris Rogers-Beadle, and cellist Charles Seo–is dedicated to sharing a passion for chamber music with all audiences, and especially enjoys performing powerhouse repertoire including works by Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, and Brahms.

Formed in 2016 at the Colburn Conservatory of Music in downtown Los Angeles, the Kova Quartet brings together four exceptionally talented young musicians whose careers have led them all over the world to many of the most prestigious music festivals and concert halls. Individually, members of the Kova Quartet have performed as soloists with numerous major orchestras including the Chicago, Boston, Seattle, Houston, and Dallas Symphonies and the Cleveland Orchestra, and have had the honor of collaborating in chamber music with distinguished artists including Roberto Diaz, Augustin Hadelich, Lynn Harrell, Gary Hoffman, Ani Kavafian, Gil Shaham, Joseph Silverstein, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, and members of the Calidore String Quartet. They are primarily mentored by Clive Greensmith, and have also worked closely with Arnold Steinhardt and Paul Coletti and performed in masterclasses for David Finckel and the Calder Quartet.

As an ensemble, the Kova Quartet most recently performed in collaboration with Rob Kapilow on his award-winning “What Makes It Great” series in Scottsdale, Arizona. Other notable performances include appearances on the Gibson Dunn Rush Hour series and the Colburn Chamber Music Society. The name Kova is a play on the word “evoke,” which the quartet hopes to do through performance and engagement.
