The Purpose of the Young Authors’ Faire…
The purpose of the Young Authors’ Faire is to celebrate the writing efforts of students in Orange County Schools, grades K-12. Keeping literacy alive in our classrooms is an essential component of preparing students for college and career readiness. It is the goal of the Orange County Department of Education to encourage and celebrate reading, writing, and creativity of all students, and to provide a venue to highlight the efforts of young authors.
What’s New this Year…
We are so excited to partner with the Orange County Public Libraries! Student literacy is the heart of the Young Authors' Faire and one of the OC Public Libraries' goals. This year, the event will be hosted at five OC Public Library locations around the county. All public school districts will be assigned to a specific library location. If you are a private or charter school, you will be assigned the same library location as your home school district. Each participating school will provide one site representative to support activities leading up to and on the day of the event.
This year, schools will reserve a table to display their work. Be Creative! Each library site will have a stage and performance area. We encourage school sites to sign up for performance opportunities.
Who should participate? Orange County TK-12 students may share their poems, stories, performances, and other unique literary talents.
Who should attend? Orange County students, their families, friends, teachers and educators are invited to participate in this FREE event celebrating literacy, on Saturday, May 10, 2014, from 11 a.m. – 3:00 p. m. The Young Authors' Faire includes opportunities for young student authors to showcase their work, meet published authors, illustrators and storytellers, to engage in activities to promote their writing craft and to learn about free community and library services.
