A presentation based on the book “Happy City” (transforming lives through urban design) by Charles Montgomery, an award -winning journalist and urban engagement specialist. His books gives answer to the dense urban living, its environment.
The design and art of a city landscape directly influences the human activities that results in changing the trends and culture of the inhabitance.
I came to Costa Mesa, CA in 2012 and I noticed that people with cars are very much respected and well served while people who would prefer bikes are refused to serve at times. It is a very different culture then what I experienced in Europe. With my experience I was refused service at a restaurant, and at bank at the harbor Blvd area. Individuals are forced to acclimate to the ways of isolation and unhealthy trends of Costa Mesa, CA. and use car to gain respect and be acknowledged.
Denmark is the happiest country of the world. Stroget street in Denmark has now become a tourist attraction also. It is a street designed for only foot traffic. The market place includes street hawkers to cooperate stores like GUCCI. Shoppers and individuals scroll throughout the one thousand and one hundred long street twenty for hours. A culture of giving to everyone whether they can pay or not. There are street art displays and performers, architectural designed landscapes, statues, benches and green areas for everyone.
