Huntington Beach Concert Band Summer Concert Series

at Huntington Beach Central Park

Huntington Beach Concert Band sponsors free summer concerts Celebrating its 41st anniversary this year, the Huntington Beach Concert Band will once again sponsor its Summer Series of 11 free Sunday concerts June 22nd to August 31st in Huntington Beach’s Central Park. “The concerts are organized by the Huntington Beach Concert Band as a community service,” said Tom Ridley, who has conducted the band for 36 years. The Huntington Beach Concert Band Summer Series will take place in the natural amphitheater area in the park behind Huntington Beach Central Library, 7111 Talbert Ave. at Goldenwest Street. Concerts start at 5 p.m. All are invited to bring picnic dinners and beach chairs or blankets to enjoy the concerts. Each concert will feature a different band with music styles ranging from big band and swing to popular marches, show tunes, Dixieland, Latin Jazz, Salsa, and Bagpipes! On July 20th and July 27th at 4:15, the concerts will be preceded by 30 minutes of free swing dance lessons starting at 4:15 p.m. Michael and Olivia will again this year be your instructors. Wear your dancing shoes! This free concert series, a Huntington Beach tradition for years and years, continues “thanks to the generous financial support from the community at last year’s concerts, and donations throughout the year,” said Linda D. Couey, the band’s general manager. The Huntington Beach Concert Band will kick off the series June 22nd with a “Celebrate America” theme. The 80-piece brass, wind and percussion ensemble will perform a variety of patriotic songs and American favorites – Memorial Day, Flag Day and Fourth of July all rolled into one! On August 3rd, the Huntington Beach band returns with a “Side-by-Side” Concert with outstanding local high school musicians joining in a program of popular marches and melodies. One of the oldest and largest community bands in Orange County, the Huntington Beach Concert Band is celebrating its 41st year. The all-volunteer band is composed of professional and amateur musicians from around the region. The band has performed at venues throughout Southern California, including the Richard M. Nixon Library, Temecula Music Festival and Verizon Amphitheater, where for the past 20 years, band members have joined the Pacific Symphony for the finale of Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture.” For more information about the series, call Linda D. Couey at 714-891-6856 or visit the band’s website, hbconcertband.org. Please also go to the band’s Facebook page: Huntington Beach Concert Band.
