The OCC Chamber Singers and the OCC Chorale, including talented soloists and a capella ensembles, will perform in a free concert on Sunday, May 4, at 3:00 p.m. at the Newport Harbor Lutheran Church, 798 Dover Drive, Newport Beach. Admission is free, but there will be a freewill offering to support OCC’s vocal programs.
The church is known for its acoustics, according to director Eliza Rubenstein, who will be accompanied by Janelle Kim and Tigranuhi Arakelyen. The concert program includes excerpts from Ralph Vaughan Williams’ powerful and beautiful “Dona Nobis Pacem,” which the Chamber Singers will sing as part of a massed choir with orchestra in Chicago's Orchestra Hall Memorial Day weekend.
Audience members will also hear traditional Native American, Hebrew, and South African songs, as well as a motet by Mendelssohn, a Dolly Parton tune, and an African-American spiritual with an opportunity for the audience to sing along! Older children are invited to attend; childcare will not be provided.
