LA Phil's Principal Guest Conductor and Musical America’s 2017 Conductor of the Year, Susanna Mälkki leads the LA Phil for its annual Orange County visit, featuring Grammy-nominated pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet.

Only the third person ever appointed principal guest conductor of the LA Phil, Finnish conductor Susanna Mälkki is a much sought-after artist on the international conducting circuit whose versatility and broad repertoire have taken her to symphony and chamber orchestras, contemporary music ensembles, and opera houses around the world. Ms. Mälkki also serves as chief conductor of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and is also principal guest conductor of the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon.

For more than three decades, Jean-Yves Thibaudet has performed world-wide, recorded more than 50 albums, and built a reputation as one of today’s finest pianists. The Grammy-nominated pianist is celebrated for his rare ability to combine poetic musical sensibilities with dazzling technical prowess and a talent for coaxing subtle and surprising colors and textures from each work he plays. He was the soloist on the Oscar-winning and critically acclaimed film Atonement, as well as Pride and PrejudiceExtremely Loud & Incredibly Close, and Wakefield. He serves as Artist-in-Residence at the Colburn School.
