Founded in 1975, the Australian Chamber Orchestra lives and breathes music, making waves around the world for their explosive performances and brave interpretations. Steeped in history but always looking to the future, ACO programs embrace celebrated classics alongside new commissions, and adventurous cross-artform collaborations. Their recordings of Bach’s violin works have won three consecutive ARIA Awards. Recent releases include Mozart’s Last Symphonies, Bach Beethoven: Fugue and the soundtrack to the acclaimed cinematic collaboration, Mountain.

Since 1990, the Australian Chamber Orchestra has been led by artistic director and violinist Richard Tognetti. Known for his compelling performances and artistic individualism, Mr. Tognetti performed the Australian premieres of Ligeti’s Violin Concerto and Lutoslawski’s Partita. In November 2016, he became the Barbican Centre’s first Artist-in-Residence at Milton Court Concert Hall in London. Appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2010, Mr. Tognetti holds honorary doctorates from three Australian universities and was made a National Living Treasure in 1999.

Pianist Paul Lewis is internationally regarded as one of the leading musicians of his generation. His cycles of core piano works by Beethoven and Schubert have received unanimous critical and public acclaim worldwide, and consolidated his reputation as one of the world’s foremost interpreters of the central European classical repertoire. His numerous awards have included the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Instrumentalist of the Year, two Edison awards, three Gramophone awards, the Diapason D'or de l'Annee, the Preis Der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, the Premio Internazionale Accademia Musicale Chigiana, and the South Bank Show Classical Music award. He holds honorary degrees from Liverpool, Edge Hill, and Southampton Universities, and was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2016 Queen's Birthday Honours.
