Emerson String Quartet

Presented by Segerstrom Center for the Arts at Unknown

Following the tremendous success of last season’s sold-out performance of Beethoven’s “Razumovsky” Quartets, the Emerson String Quartet returns with a new all-Beethoven program to open the 25th season of chamber music at Segerstrom Center. The Emerson (violinists Eugene Drucker and Philip Setzer, violist Lawrence Dutton and cellist Paul Watkins) stands apart in the history of string quartets with an unparalleled list of achievements over three decades: more than 30 acclaimed recordings, nine Grammy Awards (including two for Best Classical Album), three Gramophone Awards, the Avery Fisher Prize, Musical America’s Ensemble of the Year and collaborations with many of the greatest artists of our time. With the arrival of cellist Watkins in May of 2013, the Emerson String Quartet has embarked on a remarkable new journey – one filled with freshness, warmth and impressive accolades. Watkins, a distinguished soloist, award-winning conductor and dedicated chamber musician, has joined the ensemble for its 37th season, and his dedication and enthusiasm have already infused the Emerson Quartet with a rich tone and vibrant sense of humor.
