Conservators did not expect the riotous pinks, greens and reds they found in the 5th – 7th century murals of the Red Monastery. Layers of incense, smoke, and dirt hid the only “jeweled style” painted church left in all of the Mediterranean. Presented by Dr. Elizabeth Bowman, Associate Professor of Art History at the Tyler School of Art, Temple University. Sponsored by the Lauralee Barton and Bette Quinn.
