In this class, students will receive a thorough introduction to the technique of monotype. Monotype printmaking involves the creation of unique prints that combine the techniques of painting, drawing, and collage, while introducing the specific and often unpredictable quality of pressure. Through technical examples, a historical discussion of the monotype form, and a tour of the concurrent print show, students will develop the foundation for a technical understanding of printmaking in connection to a powerful sense of how their work might continue to translate into the graphic form.
