Compagnie Käfig: Correria Agwa

Compagnie Käfig: Correria Agwa

Presented by Irvine Barclay Theatre at Unknown

Founded in 1996 by Lyon-based artistic director, Mourad Merzouki, this all-male, Franco-Brazilian company found its artistic vision within the fusion of different styles. Compagnie Käfig flavors its works with dare-devilish circus skills, street-dance, martial arts, and the fun and energetic hip-hop vocabulary as well as other choreographic and artistic languages. Incredibly fast-paced, their complex rhythm and remarkable athleticism take the art of street-dance to a new level of sophistication. “The dancers — standouts, all of them — are gleeful and charming when they groove and slide, and simply jaw-dropping when they pitch and fly.” (Boston Globe) Set to samba and bossa nova music, the two works, Correria (Running) and Agwa (Water) "weave street- dance, hip-hop, acrobatics, and martial arts into elegant compositions." (The New Yorker)
