About Nasheet Waits
Drummer and Music Educator Nasheet Waits had an early music education from his father, legendary percussionist Frederick Waits. Freddie Waits played with major artists of the mid twentieth century including Ella Fitzgerald, Sonny Rollins, Max Roach, McCoy Tyner, and countless others.
Nasheet received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music at Long Island University, where he studied under renowned percussionist Michael Carvin. The New York-based artist has played as a member of Andrew Hill’s various bands, Jason Moran’s Bandwagon, and the Fred Hersch trio.
Nasheet has recorded with a veritable ‘who’s who’ in jazz music, boasting stints with jazz notables such as Geri Allen, Hamiett Bluiett, Abraham Burton, the Charles Mingus Orchestra, and Vanessa Rubin. He has toured extensively in Africa, Europe, Japan, Canada, South America and the United States.
