About Stuart Palley

Over the past 6 years, Stuart Palley has photographed over 10 wildfires in California. His interest in the subject began while working as a photographer at the Orange County Register during the 2007 Santiago fire, and he now serves as a field photographer covering fires for the U.S. Government as well as numerous news publications and major periodicals. In 2018, his published his first book, a collection of his wildfire photographs entitled Terra Flamma: Wildfires at Night. His work has been featured in dozens of media outlets across the globe, and his coverage of the Woolsey Fire in Malibu received 1st place in the Spot News category of the Pictures of the Year International photography awards. Born and raised in Southern California, Palley has photographed for National Geographic Magazine, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, and many other publications. His work has appeared TIME Magazine, WIRED, New York Magazine, and The Washington Post.

Stuart received his BBA and BA from Southern Methodist University, where he studied Finance and History and minored in Photography and Human Rights. He holds a Master’s Degree in Photojournalism from the University of Missouri.
