Urinetown

Urinetown

Presented by South Orange County School of the Arts Foundation at SOCSA at Dana Hills High School

One of the most humorous musicals, Urinetown is a hilarious tale of greed, corruption, love and revolution in time when water is worth its weight in gold. The story told by a not too bright Lockstock and sassy and quick witted girl named Little Sally.   In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year daught, has led to a government enforced ban on private toilets.  The citizen must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company run by Caldwell that profits by charging admission to use toilets. Amid the people, a hero follows his heart and falls in love with Hope (the daughter of the evil Caldwell) and then decides he has had enough and plans a revolution to free the masses from their bladder bondage.  The show parodies many popular musicals and playfully pokes fun at itself.  Filled with colorful characters that set a stage for an entertaining, satirical and comedic musical.    Don't let the title fool you, this show is not an indulgence in toilet humor.  Rather it is a light and cerebral look at how greed and corruptions on the highest levels impacts us all.  Urinetown is was nominated for an impressive 10 Tony Awards, winning for Best Score and Direction.
