The Muckenthaler Cultural Center presents Orange County-based dance company, The Assembly, in a culminating outdoor performance of their 2019 residency.
Director and choreographer Lara Wilson has worked closely with dancers Haihua Chiang, Taylor Unwin, MarieElena Martingano, and Ally Pawlowski. Together they used their time to inquire deeply through movement into women’s boundaries, inspired variously by personal relationships and a current climate that includes the #MeToo movement, screen and smartphone addiction, and the prevalence of natural disaster: issues that affect boundaries through consent and power; attention and privacy; and drastically, rapidly changing circumstances. In a world where women’s bodies and lives have long been considered permeable and literally up for “grabs”, The Assembly has relied on female bodies to find the edges of their own ranges of motion and staminas — to draw outlines around themselves and their lives.
The evening will include a fundraising reception with international dance photography and conversation about the work.
