CSUF First Annual Arts Education Conference

Arts at the Center of 21st Century Learning

The arts are at the culture, civic, creative and critical centers of education. This conference will gather educators and administrators, students and faculty, and youth leaders from Orange County and beyond to participate in a day of workshops and art-making experiences. Participants will learn strategies to enhance their arts-infused practices, develop arts advocacy leadership skills, and connect with others committed to exploring the relationship between the arts and 21st century learning.

Audience: PreK-12 teachers and administrators; CSUF students, faculty, staff, and administrators; Teens interested in arts advocacy

Key Note Speaker: Talena Mara, Vice President, Education & Community Programs, Segerstrom Center for the Arts Workshops

Workshops by PreK-12 school teachers, community arts educators, CSUF and other university faculty and students

Workshop Strands include:

• 21st Century Arts Learning: STEM/STEAM, tinkering, the DIY maker movement, Arts and technology integration, Common Core and the arts

• Arts Instructional Strategies: Co-teaching through the arts, multi-arts, arts integration, arts learning in the subject areas

• Community, Family and School Partnerships: Teaching artists in schools, Arts and civic engagement, service learning, intergenerational arts learning, family arts partnerships

• Connecting with Students through the Arts: Bilingual, dual language arts education, arts and inclusion, youth leadership through the arts
