Tradition and Invention: The Print Shop as a Site of Creative Collaboration with Gabriela Martinez

Presented by Bowers Museum at Bowers Museum

The history of printmaking is defined by a legacy of innovation in reproduction and mark-making. From Gutenberg’s adaptation of a winepress to the development by Mixografía of a uniquely resilient printing plate, artist printmakers and master printers continuously work towards improving the process to better suit their aesthetic needs. This presentation will highlight modern and contemporary innovations in printmaking with an emphasis on what Latinx and Latin American artists are doing today to redefine the matrix and the multiple.
