Thursday, April 2, 2015 from 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Laguna Beach Woman's Club, 286 Saint Ann's DriveLaguna Beach, CA 92651

This event will be a display of Afghan and Afghanistan-inspired art held in the Laguna Beach Woman's Club, and will coincide with the Laguna Beach First Thursdays Art Walk.  Whether you choose to explore the rest of the Art Walk or not, be sure to come to the Woman's Club and enjoy an incredible replica of "Portrait of the Afghan Girl," beautiful paintings by three young female artists from Herat, and delicious Afghan food.  All pieces of art displayed will be for sale, and all proceeds and donations will benefit International Orphan Care (IOC).

Tea and Afghan food will be served. Family, friends, and children are welcome.

Guest Speaker: International Orphan Care has invited Ashraf Anzurgar, Professor of Art at Kabul University, to speak at this event.

Professor Anzurgar is one of the most prominent fine artists in Afghanistan and a lecturer of Fine Arts at Kabul University. Americans tend to view Afghanistan as a dangerous no man’s land filled with Taliban and terrorists, violence and suppression. Anzurgar seeks to show us a different Afghanistan, its history and culture, its everyday people, through his eyes and in the form of his brilliant artwork.

Come view images of what life was like before, during and after the war. You will hear his story and how he loves his country despite the fact that the Taliban burned 250 of his own works of art.  The following paintings are a sampling of Arzungar's work.

Event is Free but Donations:are Appreciated

IOC provides education, healthcare, nutrition and vocational training so that underprivileged and orphaned children in Afghanistan will become healthy and productive members of their community.  Tickets to this event are free, but donations are always needed.

Donations can be made using cash, credit card, or check.

Checks should be made payable to International Orphan Care.

All donations, except contributions made in consideration of receiving one of the paintings, are tax deductible, and all donations will benefit the educational programs of International Orphan Care in Afghanistan
