Young Artists Showcase

Young Artists Showcase

Presented by Southern California Philharmonic at Santa Ana High School

Maestro Branden Muresan has chosen exciting pieces for our favorite concert of the year, the Young Artists Showcase. This year, the SCP will feature three young soloists chosen from a concerto competition held earlier this year.

* The First Place winner, 17 year old Tyler Baillie, attends Long Beach Poly High and has been studying the clarinet since the 4th grade. He is currently the principal clar. of the Colburn and South Coast Symphony Youth Orchestras, as well as his high school. Multi-talented, Tyler also plays baritone in the marching band and trombone in Poly’s top jazz ensemble. Tyler will perform the Weber Clarinet Concerto No.1 in F Minor.

* Second Place winner, Hanlin Chen is a sophomore and principal violist at University High School in Irvine. Playing viola since the 4th grade, Hanlin was chosen to participate in middle and high school honor orchestras. He is currently a member of the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra. Hanlin will perform the Hoffmeister Viola Concerto in D Major.

* Third Place winner, Sarah Krueger, has been playing the French Horn for 9 years. She has freelanced throughout Orange, Riverside, San Diego and LA Counties in many groups. Sarah currently attends Cal State Long Beach pursuing a Bachelors of Music. Sarah will perform the Mozart Horn Concerto K.417.

In addition, the So Cal Phil will perform In the Steppes of Central Asia (Borodin) and the Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 2.
