Dynamic duo perform Brahms, Albeniz, Bartok, and Rimsky-Korsakov @
The Newport Beach Public Library presents Agnes Székely Schwartz and Sonia Lee at our free Sunday Musicale in the Central Library Friends Room. The violin and piano duo will perform a dynamic program of international dance music by such master composers as Brahms, Albeniz, Bartok, and Rimsky-Korsakov. The program will focus on dances of Europe such as the tango, waltz, the Polish Mazurka and the Hungarian Csardas.
A native of Hungary, violinist Ágnes Székely Schwartz has performed since the age of eleven in twenty-five countries as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician, including Europe, Israel, China and the United States. Currently, Agnes serves as concertmaster for the Whittier Regional Symphony (Rio Hondo). She has been guest concertmaster for numerous opera and musical theatre companies, as well as professional, studio, and college orchestras in the Los Angeles area.
Pianist Sonia Lee has given performances, talks and masterclasses in more than eighteen countries on four continents. A performer on pianos of all periods, harpsichord, clavichord, and organ with a versatile repertoire spanning from the 16th to the 21st century, Sonia Lee is a laureate of the Mae & Irving Jurow International Harpsichord Competition, the Montréal Baroque Galaxie-CBC Rising Star Competition, the Canadian Music Competition, and the American Musical Instrument Society William E. Gribbons Award.
