Directed and choreographed by Clarinda Mac Low
Written by Jackson Mac Low
Organized by Carrie Noland
Co-organized by Simon Leung, Lisa Naugle and Deborah Oliver

Doing 40 Dances connects different UC Irvine communities in a special performance event, using imagination and creativity to bring people together--students, faculty, staff, and visiting scholars from several different departments, children, elders, and everybody in between. In 1964 Jackson Mac Low (1922-2004), a friend and colleague of John Cage, created "The Pronouns: A Collection of 40 Dances for the Dancers," poems that were also instructions for performance, for his friends in the New York City avant-garde arts community. His daughter Clarinda Mac Low collaborates with over 35 people from the UCI community to bring these historically significant poems to life in a humorous, playful, engaging, and absolutely unique performance where everybody brings their own special voice to the table. With a performance by dance legend Simone Forti, on Friday night only.
