Summer Jazz Lunch -Anthony Wilson with Larry Goldings

Summer Jazz Lunch -Anthony Wilson with Larry Goldings

Presented by Irvine Barclay Theatre at Bayside Restaurant

Anthony Wilson brings a trio consisting of Larry Goldings on Hammond B-3 organ, and Jay Bellerose on drums to the Barclay's Summer Jazz Lunch. Wilson's acclaimed trio albums Our Gang (2001), Savivity (2005), and Jack of Hearts (2009) reimagine and reframe the Hammond organ-based genre of post-bop, soul-inflected jazz, bringing a new sense of play and possibility to the well-loved instrumentation. Larry Goldings is simply one of the finest organ players on the scene today, and both Wilson and Goldings have collaborated with the deeply imaginative drummer Jay Bellerose on their own recordings.

Guitarist and composer Anthony Wilson is known for an extensive body of musical work that moves fluidly across genres. An inventive soloist and sensitive accompanist, he has been a member of Diana Krall’s quartet since 2001, after joining her for a series of concerts at the Olympia Theater, which became the Grammy Award-winning recording and concert film, Live in Paris (2002). While Anthony is firmly rooted in the jazz idiom, he pivots with ease into other genres, having contributed his instrumental and improvisational authority to albums by pop music legends Paul McCartney, Willie Nelson, Leon Russell, Aaron Neville and Barbra Streisand.

Larry Goldings is a Grammy-nominated pianist and composer. His organ trio with Peter Bernstein and Bill Stewart has been recognized in The New York Times as "the best organ trio of the last decade." Goldings' musical inspirations draw from a lifetime of absorbing jazz, pop, funk, R&B, electronic and classical music. Goldings has been recording and touring with singer-songwriter James Taylor since 2001, and is the featured musician on Taylor's One Man Band CD/DVD. In 2007, Scofield/Goldings/DeJohnette's Trio Beyond was recognized with a Best Instrumental Jazz Album Grammy nomination for their searing live recording of Saudades at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall.
