Leslie Price graduated with a MFA from Mills College, Oakland and a BFA from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn. A native of New York, he now resides in California.
"My mom, when she was alive would say: ‘give me flowers now, while I am alive, don’t wait until I am dead'. When I was a child I remember watching my Mom in our apartment tending to her houseplants, or noticing a weed pushing up through the crack of the cement sidewalk. Because of my Mom and those early experiences, I have chosen to use nature to dialogue with as a metaphor for life.
I use the observable world, my garden, as a reference and anchor to generate my paintings. My intent is to engage with what seems to have a separate existence but is part of a larger dynamic where everything is interacting and is dependent on things outside of itself for its existence. My goals have been to create paintings that are dynamic, compelling, and contemplative."
