Las Laugna Gallery is pleased to present a artist exhibition inspired by the Day of the Dead.
Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and around the world in other cultures. It is an ancient and enduring ritual when the living commune with the dead – a mystical night when the veil is lifted between their two realms and they may share a day together. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. It is particularly celebrated in Mexico, where it is a national holiday, and all banks are closed. The historical roots of this celebration date back to the pre-Hispanic cultures of Meso-America of the indigenous people, especially the Nahua (Aztecs, Mayans, Toltecas, Tlaxcaltec, Chichimec, Tecpanec) and others native to Mexico more than 3,000 years.
Artists include: Kimm Barnes, Julie Cavaz, Catherine Chastain, Nela Dunato, Daniel Evans, Sergio Garcia Rill, Jeff Goodsell, Nicholas Ivans, Jim Kohatsu, Vicki Matheson, Nicholas Nicholas, Arnold Anthony Orosco, Justin Reding, Beth Robinson, and Kat Tatz
