Santiago Canyon College, Community Services presents a Zoom class, Painting On Silk.

The objective of this course is to not only create 6 hand-painted silk scarves but provide crafters with new business opportunities; artists seeking new venue to express themselves; novices who want to experience something new (no artistic talent needed); and older adults who want to stay active, increase hand manipulation and expand concentration and creative skills.

Students will learn about the durability of silk; stretch the silk onto a frame, paint the silk with silk dyes; use the serti- gutta (fenced-in) technique to control the flow of dyes; shading techniques with diluted dyes; and setting the gutta and steam-fixing to set the dyes.
