Making an Emotional Statement with Painting

This workshop offers a more intuitive approach to painting. Mastery of the medium, strengthening skills of perception and expertly rendering a subject are all crucial in the creative process. However, mere copying of nature is not an artistic expression. The task of conveying content – emotions and ideas – is far more important. This is a profound step in your creative development and is the path to becoming not simply an observer but a fine artist. 

Explore abstract value patterns, visual concepts, form and edges with feeling and movement while developing your aesthetic sensibilities. Light and the way it affects perception of structure will be emphasized, as well as mixing specific and surprising color. You’ll learn to see in terms of mass and form rather than detail and line and develop the skills necessary to translate light into the language of paint. Through the practice of creating small studies you’ll develop the seeds of your ideas to create art with depth of purpose and richness in meaning, that is both personal and universal. Demonstrations, individualized instruction and group critiques will be provided.
