Nasty Baby

Presented by Frida Cinema, The at Frida Cinema, The

Chilean director Sebastián Silva’s latest film, NASTY BABY is a morally ambiguous realist fable surrounding the creation of a life, and the taking of another, that all starts to unfold after Polly (Kristen Wiig), along with gay couple Mo and Freddy (Tunde Adebimpe and Sebastián Silva, respectively), decide to have a baby in contemporary Brooklyn.

NASTY BABY is an intimate exploration of the “new normal” family, gentrification, art, and mortality, Silva’s latest follows a string of successes including 2013’s Crystal Fairy and the Magic Cactus (Sundance Directing Award) and 2009’s The Maid (Sundance Grand Jury Prize).

Silva’s Nasty Baby is an emotionally charged and challenging view of three people navigating the intersections of sexuality, race, orientation, age, modernity, art and life. Join us for this explosive drama that promises to destroy, delight, and profoundly unsettle.

“By shattering genre conventions, Silva subverts traditional perspectives on modern adulthood and finds no easy answers in the process.” – An Banh, indieWIRE

“Mr. Silva’s accomplishment is not just in pulling off a jarring plot twist, but in handling a change of tone that turns the movie — and the audience’s assumptions about it — upside down.” – A.O. Scott, New York Times

“…a vibrant, thoughtful piece about modern life in a very particular gentrified neighborhood.” – Todd McCarthy, Hollywood Reporter
