Sketchbook

at LAB, The Anti-Mall

As Issued is excited to announce the book release and art show with Portland based Illustrator Zach Johnsen. Titled ‘SKETCHBOOK’, the 216-page catalogue represents the culminated sketch ramblings from 1998-present. The drawing material for the book dates back to Johnsen's time in art school which includes rough studies, character development, sketches from freelance projects and various drawings from every day life observations. The material was compiled from 48 sketchbooks, equaling roughly 10,000 pages of scanned illustrations. The final SKETCHBOOK is a composed and edited selection of sketch material presented as a filled sketchbook. ($24.99)

The art show will feature the physical sketchbooks that were used to compile the book, paintings and illustrations from the artist. Providing the viewer a complete oeuvre of the artists' body of work to present.

Zach Johsen is a multidisciplinary artist and designer, working both in the commercial sphere and fine art world. He works in graphite, watercolor, pen & ink and acrylic on mostly 2D surfaces and by far his most trusted medium is the micron pen. He uses the micron pen exhaustively to describe an ever-expanding world of ghouls, monsters and misfits – the shady characters in everyday life and how they expose themselves in our world. His is frenetic and chaotic, and explosion of line s and color influences by infomercials, cartons, sweets and the over-consumption of popular culture.

The release will be the artist's first published book. He has shown with As Issued since its inception in 2010.
