Experience the brilliance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Magnificat in D Major and the familiar melodies of George Frideric Handel’s beloved Messiah as the Meritáge Vocal Arts Ensemble passes the baton between directors old and new. Long time director Dr. Sheridan Ball concludes his tenure with Meritáge in this performance of Bach’s Magnificat. Using text from Luke I: 46-55, Bach incorporates bombastic moments of polyphony and heart-wrenching lyrical suspensions, taking each of the twelve movements on an emotional journey of praise. New director Dr. Cristian Grases brings the traditions of Handel’s Messiah alive in his debut performance with Meritáge. Select movements and recitatives highlight favorite moments of this well-known masterwork and are sure to awaken the holiday spirit in us all.
