Playwright, screenwriter, award-winning journalist Kemp Powers talks with actor Giovanni Adams about the writer’s art. Part of SCR’s #Commissioned series.
Kemp Powers is super-smart—a playwright, screenwriter, award-winning journalist and celebrated storyteller with The Moth—and you’ll be able to get up close and personal with his life and career when he talks with actor Giovanni Adams, one of Powers’ long-time collaborators (who electrified audiences in South Coast Repertory's world premiere of Powers' Little Black Shadows and in SCR’s Photograph 51).
Powers' Disney-Pixar animated feature, Soul (co-written and co-directed with Pete Doctor), premieres on Christmas Day and the film adaptation of his play One Night in Miami debuts on Amazon in January. He’s also a writer for the CBS hit, “Star Trek: Discovery.” And there’s much more. In this YouTube interview, they talk about the writer's art.
About #Commissioned: You’re given money to write a play. Now what? In this insightful series on how new plays get developed, South Coast Repertory's commissioned playwrights get put in the hot seat, interviewed by some of our favorite actors.
