Art Exhibit: Watercolors and Sculpture of Joan Irving Brandt

Presented by Newport Beach City Arts Commission and Newport Beach Public Library at Newport Beach Public Library

The Newport Beach Arts Commission presents an art exhibit featuring watercolors and sculpture by celebrated artist Joan Irving Brandt. The collection, curated by Gordon T. McClelland, will showcase California Scene paintings from the collection of Gene Crain and others.

Joan Irving Brandt, a painter, sculptor and muralist was born in Riverside on March 12, 1916. She and her husband, legendary artist, Rex Brandt, began teaching at their home and studio in 1948, and in 1973 she became co-director of the Blue Sky school, located by the footbridge on Marigold Avenue in Corona del Mar. Brandt’s art is in the collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art as well as other museums of note.  

In addition to the art exhibit, the City Arts Commission will host a Centennial Celebration of the artist's life, art and civic contributions on March 5 at 2 p.m. in the Freinds Meeting Room at the Central Library.
