Experience an exclusive pre-recorded historical and educational tour with the Bowers Museum of the California Indian Basketry: Artistry and Symbolism with authors Wayne A. Thompson and Eugene S. Meieran.
While basket weaving using natural reeds, plants, and fibers is a world-wide craft, the North American Indian tribes produced many of the finest baskets. And of these, the ones woven by several of the tribes located in Central California and Western Nevada during the time period 1895 or so to about 1940, by which time the major weavers had passed away or ceased weaving, are considered perhaps the best of the best; true art masterpieces with both artistic as well as symbolic markings.
