February 14 Interactive music workshops – with Beth Sussman, BM, MM The Juilliard School, Master Teaching Artist Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Los Angeles Music Center:
1:30-2:00 Keep the Beat (suggested ages 4-8) Using music and movement, participants learn the difference between rhythm and beat and learn to keep a steady beat (beat is crucial for the inner sense of timing necessary for reading fluency)
2:00-2:30-Musically Speaking (suggested ages 6-8) Learn and apply the secret code words that musicians use when they speak to each other.
2:30-3:00 Carnival of the Animal (suggested ages 5-8) through this classic piece, participants will predict they think each animal’s piece will be in a high or low pitch, fast or slow tempo, loud or soft, choppy or smooth. We will also do physical movement for each animal.
3:00-3:30 Can you Kazoo? (suggested ages 4-6 – limit 20 kids)celebrate Valentine’s day by making and decorating kazoos out of recycled materials and then playing them together.
