The Reunion Tour: LCAD BFA Game Art Alumni

Presented by Laguna College of Art and Design at LCAD Gallery

Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD) will open The Reunion Tour: An Exhibition of Works by BFA Game Art Alumni on April 7th with a First Thursday Art Walk reception from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at LCAD Gallery. The exhibition will run through April 30, 2016.

The Reunion Tour exhibition features work by LCAD Game Art alumni currently working in the game industry on exciting projects at independent game studios and premier game developers and publishers. The exhibition will kick off a weekend of intensive workshops and mentoring, as well as Gameboree, a networking event for LCAD game art students, alumni, game industry professionals and the public from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9th at [seven-degrees], 891 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach, CA 92651.

“I am thrilled to bring this collection to the public as I’ve worked with many of these alumni when they were students here at LCAD,” said Sandy Appleoff, chair of LCAD’s BFA program in Game Art. “What makes these weekend workshops even more meaningful is that LCAD Game Art alumni are volunteering their valuable time and expertise to work closely with currently enrolled Game Art students. We all are very grateful for their dedication as well as for the generosity of our sponsors, Blizzard Entertainment, Obsidian Entertainment, Riot Games, Unity, and [seven-degrees].”

LCAD Game Art alumni featured in The Reunion Tour exhibition include: Gabriel Gonzalez, Jessica Clarke, Jessica Dinh, Ariel Fain, Joshua Manning, Zeyan Zhang, Kyle Jensen, Tina Wang and Ben Thompson (Blizzard); Daniel Cuatt, Breanna Guthrie and Joo Son (Obsidian); Anna Sakoi and Michelle Hardy (Super Evil Mega Corp); Bryant Koshu (Konami), Kevin Duong (Highmoon), Brian Bedford and Justin Schut (zqgame), Wesley Martin (Mobius Digital), Veronica Liwski (Disney Interactive), Nicole Chang and Robert Ortega (Pocket Gems, Riot Games), Nicole Tan (Crystal Dynamics) and Alexa Rockman, Rachel Skinner and David Woo (MBA). Works exhibited will range from 2D concept art to game-ready 3D models.

“The exhibition includes works sprung from passion projects to high-profile projects that are under exclusive privacy arrangements and being exhibited to the art and gaming communities for the first time,” said Appleoff.

More exhibiting alumni will be announced prior to the exhibition.

Founded in 2007, LCAD Game Art is a project-based, collaborative program. Students receive a foundation in classical art training, from which they create complex digital worlds using state-of-the-industry software. Design teams are assembled to work—in pre-existing and newly created game engines—with graduate and undergraduate partnerships, such as USC’s graduate program, GamePipe.

LCAD Game Art students benefit from exclusive access to teachers and mentors who come from Blizzard Entertainment, Sony Online Entertainment, Appy Entertainment, Double Helix, Obsidian Entertainment, NCsoft Carbine Studios, Insomniac, and Highmoon.
