18th Annual SOCSA Opera Night Gala at Soka University Performing Arts Center.

Aliso Viejo, CA – The  Annual SOCSA (South Orange County School of the Arts) Academy’s Gala tradition continues this year with “Opera Night 2016: Among the Stars,”. This marks Opera Night’s 18th year celebrating classical music, dance and contemporary art.

Join us in experiencing prodigious Opera performances by dedicated students, such as “In uomini, in soldati”, a delightful and humorous aria from the opera Cosi fan tutte by Mozart, and the enchanting alto aria “non so piu cosa son” from Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart.  Also to be performed is the aria from Mozart's opera, The Magic Flute, widely considered to be one of the most famous opera arias: highly memorable, fast paced and menacingly grandiose. Other opera highlights include the “Willow Song” aria from The Ballad of Baby Doe, the most famous opera by the American composer Douglas Moore. Recognizable favorites by Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, and Handel will be performed with excellence by the gifted students. A hand-selected group of talented students will perform selections such as “Care Selve” from Atalanta, “Sweeter than Roses” by Henry Purcell, and more, including duets, ensemble and group performances.

Each year, SOCSA hosts their gala Opera Night reception and performance to showcase amazing student talent from South Orange County. The SOCSA Opera program is open to all high school students in Orange County, and provides 11 weeks of intensive classical vocal training with guest teachers, international guest artists, and master coaches, exposing students to art education unsurpassed in the area. This year students from Dana Hills High School, Mater Dei, San Clemente High School and Capistrano Valley High School as well as others will be performing. Classical singers, musicians and dancers will delight patrons with a full program. Gala concert goers will be treated to a pre-show reception, gallery exhibition and silent auction.

The night is bound to move audiences as we tell the story of love, triumph, vengeful rage, fate, tragedy and emotions that stir the soul.The performances will truly leave you uplifted and Among the Stars.
